Secord Township Meeting
January 15, 2020
10:00AM
Meeting called to order by Clerk Kathy Wilton at 10:00 am with everyone
standing and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
Roll Call: Taken by Clerk Kathy Wilton as follows:
Supervisor Colin Combs absent, Treasurer Linda Ronne, Clerk Kathy
Wilton, Trustees Bill Bowman and Martin Holmes were present. 17
interested residents were in attendance.
Public Comment: none
Correspondence: Wilton read the following: Letter from
Spectrum stating they are removing the Fox Soccer channel but will be
available for an extra charge, planning minutes and fire board minutes
received.
Minutes of December 18, 2019 regular meeting were reviewed. Motion by
Holmes/Ronne to accept as presented. 4 ayes, 1 absent M/C

Motion by Holmes/Bowman to receive and file the treasurer’s report. 4
ayes, 1 absent M/C
Bills to be paid: Wilton read the following bills to be
paid: General fund $23,456.87 Fire Fund $1834.52 and payroll $9,322.32
Motion by Holmes/Bowman to pay the bills as presented. 4 ayes, 1 absent

Guests:
Berg Assessing: Allan Berg stated it's a busy time of year getting
assessments out. He has several new employees at his office so if you
call you may get a new person. They are now the assessor for Grim
Township also.
County Commissioner Joel Vernier: Joel spoke about a variety of meetings
he participated in as well as the census work starting to move forward.
Four Lakes Task Force will have a meeting on Saturday at Secord Twp Hall
at 11am to discuss the assessments. Time of Transfer will have a public
meeting in April for the countywide program.
Gladwin School Superintendent Rick Vernier: Rick spoke about the ZERO
increase bond proposal for the schools that will be used for upgrading
the heating and ventalation systems in all 4 buildings for the schools.
The systems are old and need upgrading which will help save costs on a
monthly basis.
Committee Reports:
Planning Committee: Jim Carroll reported they need board members to join
the committee. There will be no meeting in March or April unless needed.
Fire Board: Chairman Marty Holmes reported there were 10 runs last
month: 6 medical, 3 fire and 1 mutual aid. They have reviewed the
options to fix the old truck. Because of the cost to fix they would like
to start the spec process on building a new truck.
Fire Chief: Chief Fred Shaver gave an overview of the situation with the
truck and when he can use it and when he can't. Motion by Wilton/Ronne
to allow the fireboard to start the spec process on a new pumper. 4
ayes/1 absent. M/C Shaver also talked about the last big rain and that
everything was good with the dam.
Constable: Hart turned in her paperwork and it stated all was well.
Road Committee: no report
Zoning Administrator: Sabourin reported that permit requests have
already started for the new year. She anticipates being busy.
Ordinance Officer: none
Well and Septic report: Bill Bowman reported: the ongoing issue on
Lakeshore. Everything else is going along well. Wilton gave him a paper
from the Health Dept that they have an 'intent to grant a variance' for
a holding tank system at a residence on Lakeshore.
Other Business:
Wilton asked for people to work the March 10th election. Please let her
know if you are interested. Also, people need to start thinking about
running for board positions. Supervisor, Clerk and Treasurer are all
going to be open.
AT&T: Wilton stated we received a very high increase in our AT&T
billing. She will be looking at other options. Motion by Holmes/Bowman
to go with another carrier if needed. 4 ayes/1absent M/C Fire Dept will
look at going to Charter.
